On ‘blind date with a book’
Think mystery boxes except for books, accompanied with a handwritten message for the next person to find.
Inspiration
In membership clubs, sustaining member engagement is paramount.
The classic tactic is to bring members together via events like summits, workshops and talks. However, that only captures a small sliver of the community. What about members who only come to the club to co-work and do not have the time to join events or stay long enough to mingle?
I asked myself: how can we enable members to find like-minded souls and connect with them in a way that was not dependent on them being there at the same time and in the same space?
The Format
Sharing the books you read with us is an intimate invitation into your brain. It tells people what you are drawn to, what you like to think about, and sometimes, your personality.
I wanted to use books as a medium of connection within the members’ club.
With a thriving community of avid readers, I proposed a ‘blind date with a book’ activation in Feb’ 2025, where members could bring preloved books to the club, wrap them up in brown paper and twine, and leave a message describing the book for someone else to pick up. Members also had the option to leave behind their contact details for the receiver of their preloved book to connect with them.
