‘perfect day’ song launch

On ‘perfect day’

Capturing the feeling of basking in the sweetness of doing nothing with a special someone.

Inspiration

I came up with this song in Feb’ 2024 as I mused over the bigger question of ‘what constitutes a good use of time’.

Collectively, there is a new sense of yearning for time that feels soft and gentle and expansive, and a shift from chasing time to basking in time. In Italian, there is a concept of il dolce far niente, which translates to ‘the sweetness of doing nothing’ and that, combined with other contextual factors, became the inspiration for ‘perfect day’ which hopes to embody that feeling of basking in luscious time with your favourite person.

The Format

One of the best advice I got on how to construct this experience was to design with metaphors. ‘perfect day’ was originally written as a love letter, so why not make the launch exactly that but multiplied 10-fold?

The song launch became fully analogue, which aptly captured that feeling of basking in time - a lot of my mornings were spent at my desk feeling the soft glow from the morning sun as I wrote my letters, folded paper, and sealed envelopes.

I penned a few letters to a special bunch of people who’ve felt like warm sunlight, and put my trust in the postal mail service. Thankfully, it didn’t let me down and in fact, it’s got me back into the practice of sending physical letters to dear friends - there’s just something about receiving physical mail these days!

Each letter mailed out was also accompanied by cute little retro stickers, each meant to help spark a daisy chain of noticing and appreciating the little moments, things and people who make your perfect day.
